Today Is The Day I Defend My iPod

I have an iPod Shuffle, and I like it a lot. It plays my music, and it plays it well. I don’t use it to pick up chicks or to impress my friends or to dance around the house in black silhouette mode… it’s just a thing that does a job.

So when I went looking around for reviews on the mobiBlue DAH-1500i mp3 player, I happened along a site called Anything But iPod. Here’s their shtick:

The fact is that Apple makes a half decent mp3 player. I own or have owned several different Apple MP3 players. However, I feel that there are better choices available. With the iPod there are no decisions to make; you give up your right to choose. You are just another face in the crowd, with the same player and the same service. With other mp3 players you have the right to choose from several different services and with those services you are able to choose which player matches you as an individual. This website is dedicated to individuals that can think for themselves. Individuals that can make a decision based on the facts not what corporations or the media dictates.

Congrats, dude. You’re just as much of a tool as my shuffle.

D-Link DWL-121 Is Mac Compatible

DWL-121If you’ve never had the pleasure, let me introduce you to Woot.com. In their own words, “Woot.com is an online store and community that focuses on selling cool stuff cheap“. My kinda store!

Last week they featured a two-pack of the D-Link DWL-121 802.11b USB wireless adaptors for $9.99 + $5 shipping. The catch is that the DWL-121 isn’t an officially supported product for OSX, Linux, or Windows… it’s a special one-off adaptor D-Link made for a home entertainment system. It just so happens that you can hack the Windows driver for the DWL-122 to make the DWL-121 work with XP.

On a whim, I decided to install the OSX DWL-122 driver on my iMac at work (running 10.3.9 server). Lo and behold, the thing works like a charm! Sooo… don’t let anybody tell you the DWL-121 is WinXP only, because they don’t know what they’re talking about.
